After taking London, Berlin and Antwerp by storm, Desertfest is ready to land in yet another European city crawling with lovers of stoner rock; Athens.
Spiritual sister to Desertfest Antwerp, which also takes place in October, Desertfest Athens is the latest addition to the Desertfest family. Expect not only the finest stoner, doom, sludge and psych that has become the staple of Desertfest events across Europe, but also a new found warmth, as we edge ever closer to the equator to enjoy the famous Greek heat.
The main acts announced so far include Friday's headliners, Red Fang, whose brand of party-stoner rock is sure to close out the first ever day of Desertfest Athens in raucous fashion. Expect riffs, riffs and riffs when Red Fang take to the stage.
Godfather of the scene John Garcia has fronted countless iconic acts; Kyuss, Slo Burn, Unida, Hermano and Vista Chino all hold their place in the pantheon of stoner rock history. The great man himself will be performing at Desertfest Anthens in a solo capacity, playing songs from his solo record as well as classics from his array of phenomenal bands.
Joining them are the kings of European psych. Colour Haze. Colour Haze's two decade dominance of the stoner-psych scene has produced some of the finest albums ever recorded, including their self titled, and 2012s stunning double album She Said to name a few. Colour Haze will stun you with their trance inducing tones.
Legendary doomers from the early 'daze', Pentagram are veterans of the doom scene - from before there even was a doom scene. Pentagram's current lineup of Bobby Liebling, Victor Griffin, Greg Turley and Pete Campbell is as solid as the band has ever been. There's nothing more beautiful than a venue full of people singing along to 'Forever My Queen'.
With many more on the bill including sludge merchants Torche, the post-psych My Sleeping Karma and kings of the instrumental riff Karma to Burn as well as a tonne of acts still to be confirmed, this is sure to be the start of something special.
